Work With Us

Weekend Shop & Studio Assistant - Part-time

We’re looking for a Shop & Studio Assistant to join our small colourful and friendly studio based in Peckham, South London. This is a part-time role, perfect for someone that’s detail-oriented, calm under pressure, comfortable working independently and used to working on their feet (literally - this is not a sit down role!) We will be looking for some to work 1-2 days a week over Saturdays & Sundays primarily, hours 10am-6pm. This is the perfect opportunity for someone wishing to supplement their freelance work, or to go alongside studying.

This is perfect for someone that’s detail-oriented, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced and used to working on their feet (literally!) It’s important for us to note that this role will touch every facet of the business except for design. If you’re looking to join us with view to potentially help design eventually, this isn’t the role for you.

We would ideally be looking for someone to start around January 25th (flexible), so the application closing date will be January 20th. However, we are looking to fill the position ASAP, so do apply as soon as you can, as we may close applications earlier if we fill the position.

Unfortunately we are not able to provide a visa/sponsorship for this role, so please only apply if you have the right to work in the UK. Please also note you'll need to be London-based or willing to travel, as this is not the kind of job that can be done remotely.

The Role

Are you calm and highly organised? Ever been described as 'on it' in a previous job? Love running around on busy days? We want to hear from you. We're looking for someone with previous retail or experience with an e-commerce brand who is comfortable with spinning a lot of plates at the same time and thrives in a busy environment. Things move quickly in the studio and shop, and we want someone who can match the speed and urgency it needs, but still keep calm and organised while ensuring things are running smoothly. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who has initiative to find things to do without always needing instruction.

Your role will be primarily customer service facing, with responsibility of manning one of our two retail shops, (both in the same location). Additional responsibilities will include packing products for our stationery studio, keeping the shop spaces in immaculate condition, and helping to look after our 3 lovely cats!

Responsibilities

- Customer service responsibilities. You will be required to reply to customer service emails in a timely and professional manner. Some of your days will be in our stores, so this will also include keeping the store looking good and fully stocked, and helping and chatting with customers.

- Packing product ready to be shipped, ensuring all the right components and packaging are included with every item. This part definitely needs someone who has a keen eye for detail.

- Complete general housekeeping duties such as assisting with the organisation of packing materials and studio cleanliness.

- Management of stock rooms – ensuring that product is packed, kept tidy, and ready for dispatch.

What we’re looking for

- Someone who enjoys working in retail and chatting to customers.

-  A highly organised person with strong attention to detail.

- Someone who is fast – certainly times of the year can get very busy, and we get a lot of orders which need packed products, so we need someone that can match our pace.

- Great initiative and willingness to help with any task (like taking out the rubbish! We’re all hands on deck over here!) If you’ve ever been described as ‘on it’ in a previous job, you’ll be a strong contender for this role.

- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).

- Customer experience in either retail or online. Experience with online order fulfilment and shipping carriers is a bonus.

- Someone who loves art and design and really gets what we're about as a brand, aesthetically. Also someone with attention to detail who understands the high standards we have for the product we send out to our customers.

- Plus, you must like cats! We have 3 cats that live in our studio and we all pitch in to keep them happy, so if you’re allergic to cats this probably isn’t the right role for you.

Not essential but would be handy

- Experience working in a small independent retailer.

- Experience with visual merchandising or shop styling.

- Knowledge of Shopify. Any other POS systems are a bonus.

- Some experience with stock management or handling.

- Some experience with online fulfilment and shipping carriers is a bonus.

Benefits and what’s on offer

- Part-time role, 10-6, for 1-2 days per week in our Peckham store/s, including weekends and seasonal holidays.

- £13.15/hour and regular performance reviews.

- First choice of all sample sale stock and generous staff discounts.

- A buzzing, fast-paced and creative working environment. The perfect place for a self-starter!

- Private health insurance and paid mental health days.

- 20 days holiday.

Sound good? Here's how to apply:

Just email us your CV (no cover letters please!) with the subject 'Shop & Studio Assistant' to applications@the-completist.com, making sure you also answer the below questions. We don't need essays for these! Just a couple of sentences - keep it light, we're looking to get a sense of how you'd fit in with the team.

 1. Who is your favourite stationery brand (not us!) or retailer and why?

 2. What is the best thing you learned, or your favourite part of a previous job role?

 3. What is your biggest strength that you can bring to this role? We don't need you to give us a 'corporate' answer for this - it could be anything like... good at lifting boxes, fantastic at remembering numbers/counts, a good problem solver, down to earth and ready to get stuck in, the biggest cat lover in the world... we want to know what's good about you!

 4. What's your favourite and least favourite household chore?

 5. Most importantly, send us your favourite meme (seriously!)

Looking forward to hearing from you, and please note that as we are a small team, we can only reply to shortlisted applicants.

Thank you!

We are an equal opportunities employer and positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.
