I think it’s well established around these parts how much I love Phoebe Philo, and Celine. My illustration of Phoebe is still one of my favourites, and I have so, so many Celine things in the line up to be sketched.
What drew me to this image (and the sister sketch coming soon) was the earrings. I tend to be quite impatient with really detailed things, but they’re just SO incredible (and I’m not even an earrings person) that I liked the idea of the challenge. They took a long time to draw, but in the end, I’m really happy with them. They totally make this illustration (I think). I chose a really light watercolour wash for this one, and I think the earrings balance this nicely. As I sketch more and more, I have also realised that I’ve got quite good at drawing eyes and hair, but the lips… I really struggle with them. They end up just looking shaded or whatever.. definitely something I want to work more on (because I just don’t know if I’ll EVER be able to draw hands). And I just love scribbling in the other details… I went through a stage where I wanted everything to be precise, but actually I love scribbling much, much more.
Anyway, as I mentioned, she has a sister sketch which I’m just finishing. Hopefully will post her soon. In the meantime – keep an eye out for work in progress posts on my instagram here.
